If you’re looking for a job in the aerospace industry, a Foley company is hiring. UTC Aerospace Technologies is filling the last of 260 jobs promised with its last expansion. UTC manufactures a variety of components that go on Airbus planes assembled in Mobile.
The jobs are all High-paying and range from engineering level to skilled labor positions. As one of the largest employers in Baldwin County, county officials say they expect more expansions in the future.
The 260 jobs came along with an 80,000 square foot expansion to UTC’s Foley plant. The addition directly supports the Airbus A-320 assembly line in Mobile. The facility features a wide range of manufacturing technology including automated material movement and painting systems. Baldwin County has been able to provide the skilled workforce to man it and the plant now leads UTC facilities worldwide in production.
“What it means when the CEO and the company as a whole recognizes the Foley location as the preeminent location for efficiency, workforce production, culture and an example for the entire company, it means that hey, we’ve got the workforce. We’ve got a great place to do business,” said the director of the Baldwin County Economic Development Alliance, Lee Lawson.
The final jobs to be filled include a Buyer. Inventory Clerk, NDT Technicians and Apprentice Assemblers. The jobs are high-paying and will contribute to the annual payroll of $50 million dollars, most of which will stay in Baldwin County. County officials said they hope to see more of this kind of growth in the near future.
“We continue to talk to UTC about their plans, but more importantly, we are talking to other manufacturers in this segment…in this market segment and Bombardier and Airbus continue to grow in Mobile, we continue to see secondary suppliers ready to go to meet that demand here, but also to meet that demand worldwide,” explained Baldwin County Commissioner, Chris Elliott.
While this latest expansion brought 260 new jobs to the area, as the Airbus and Bombardier assembly lines in Mobile continue to expand, UTC is poised to expand right along with them.
