University of South Alabama Director of Athletics Dr. Joel Erdmann announced Wednesday that the school has signed a contract with Louisiana State for a football matchup between the two programs during the 2024 season. The contest will be played on Sept. 28 that fall in Baton Rouge. It's the third non-conference date set for the Jaguars that season, with South also slated to open with an Aug. 31 home game against North Texas before visiting Ohio on Sept. 7."It will be great to play a team that is perennially in the top 10-15 in the country, one that is an SEC power and has been among the best in the region for the longest time," said Jag head coach Steve Campbell. "It also gives us an opportunity to play a big game in an area that we recruit. It's always fun to play in those environments, that's why you sign up to come to South Alabama, to play in big games like that."The Jaguars and Tigers were originally supposed to meet for the first time in Baton Rouge on Nov. 19, 2016, but that matchup was canceled after LSU's schedule was altered by Hurricane Matthew. In its first nine seasons of competition, South has faced four other Southeastern Conference opponents, including a three-game series with Mississippi State that ended with the Jags opening the 2016 season with a 21-20 victory in Starkville. USA has also played Tennessee (2013), South Carolina ('14) and Ole Miss ('17), with future games against league members including a trip to Florida in 2020 and a return visit to take on the Volunteers the next year. For more information about South Alabama athletics, check back with www.usajaguars.com, and follow the Jaguars at www.twitter.com/WeAreSouth_JAGS.
