Police say two juveniles are charged with burglary and arson after breaking into a home Saturday afternoon. Neighbors say the home belongs to an elderly couple. Police say a 15 and 16 year old stole items and started 3 separate fires in the house. No one was home but it did give neighbors a bit of a fright.
"I was just scared," said one neighbor who didn't want to be identified. "I saw a vehicle sitting outside of our house and I saw somebody in it. It put up a red flag that something was off."
Neighbors on Oaklane drive in Theodore say what happened Saturday is pretty unusual. The neighbor we spoke to said she thought she heard gunshots and called police immediately. Investigators said when officers arrived they heard glass breaking and saw fire in the front window.
"I've lived in this neighborhood my whole entire life and we've never really had any kind of trouble. No issues with break-ins or anything like that. It's a pretty peaceful place," she said.
Officers rushed into the house and found the two teenagers. Police say the boys set 3 separate fires inside of the home and stole guns, jewelry and other items.
"I have kids that age and just to think that somebody that age would be doing things like that is kind of shocking because you don't want to think that of someone so young," she added.
Investigators say the teenagers were treated for smoke inhalation at a local hospital and taken to Strickland Youth Center.
